Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain among adults. Patients often complain of pain under the heel, particularly upon standing, in the morning, and with activity. While plantar fasciitis can affect anyone, it is more likely to appear in older adults, athletes, and those who stand on hard surfaces for work. Treatment for plantar fasciitis can vary. Some patients find relief with home remedies, such as anti-inflammatory medicine, icing, and stretches. Others may need physical therapy, injections, walking boots, or other interventions. Some patients may need surgery, though 95% of plantar fasciitis cases are treated without surgery. Advanced Ortho and Spine is proud to provide the latest innovations in nonsurgical treatment for plantar fasciitis, Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Technology (EPAT). Procedure Overview: EPAT for Plantar Fasciitis

In this procedure overview video, Dr. Roger Passmore, board-certified foot and ankle surgeon, discusses Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Technology (EPAT) for Plantar Fasciitis, a treatment for patients with Plantar Fasciitis. He explores the main causes and symptoms of Plantar Fasciitis and gives an in-depth explanation of treatments options available, including an in-depth overview of the EPAT treatment. Achilles Tendonitis

Achilles tendonitis causes pain at the back of the heel. Some patients may also have a spur that causes pain and most experience swelling. While the exact cause may be unknown, tendonitis is usually caused by inflammation or tears in the Achilles tendon. Conservative treatments like physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medicine, stretching, and ice are the first line of treatment. The earlier a patient is seen for Achilles tendonitis, the better. Conservative, nonsurgical treatment works best for those who are seen in the early stages of symptoms. For those who do not experience relief, surgery may be needed. Imaging studies, such as MRIs, can help doctors understand the extent of the injury and prepare for surgery. While the surgery has a high success rate, patients usually need several months to recover.

Ankle Arthritis

Arthritis is inflammation of the joint. For those with ankle arthritis, this inflammation can cause stiffness, swelling, and pain. Symptoms are more likely to occur in the morning, upon standing, during weather changes, and when active. Most degenerative ankle arthritis is the result of a previous injury, such as a fracture. The first line of treatment is anti-inflammatory medicine and a lightweight brace. For patients who do not have pain relief, steroid injections or surgery may be needed. The type of surgery will depend on how bad the arthritis is. Mild cases may improve with minimally invasive arthroscopic procedures to “clean” the joint. For more severe cases, patients may require a bone fusion or an ankle replacement. A fusion immobilizes the joint, which can reduce pain but may also result in a loss of motion. In contrast, a replacement allows more motion. During a replacement, one of our surgeons replaces the arthritic surfaces with a mechanical joint. The type of surgery depends on several factors, such as age, presence of bone spurs, other health conditions, and more. As with all these treatments, the primary goal is to reduce pain.

Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Technology (EPAT)

Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Technology, or EPAT, is a nonsurgical treatment for plantar fasciitis. This evidence-based, FDA-cleared technology uses shockwave therapy. The shockwaves break up scar tissue and stimulate healing. Over time, the damaged tissue regenerates. This relieves pain from plantar fasciitis. Learn more about plantar fasciitis and EPAT.>

Lapidus Bunionectomy

A bunion is a bony bump protruding out from the side of the big toe. This structural issue happens when the big toe becomes dislocated and begins shifting inward in the direction of the other toes. Bunions may not be painful at first. But over time the stability of the joint can deteriorate making the bunion more noticeable and painful. Advanced Ortho and Spine is proud to provide the Lapidus bunionectomy procedure, known as the ‘gold standard’ in bunion surgery. During this procedure, the bunion is corrected by relocating the first metatarsal bone back to its proper position. This procedure often allows for a speedier recovery with little pain and less downtime.

Foot and Ankle Fracture Surgery

A fracture refers to an injury or break of the bones. Fractures of the foot and ankle can often be some of the most debilitating. Treatment of foot and ankle fractures depends on the exact site and degree of severity, as there are many types of fractures ranging from hairline fractures to traumatic bone breaks. A severely broken foot or ankle may require surgery, including using pins, plates, or screws to maintain proper position of bones during the healing process.

Patient Testimonials

Dr. Cook recently replaced my right hip. He did the left 3 years ago. Love this doc! He is so professional and had an easy going bedside manner. He explains everything in understandable language. He even called me with MRI results when he was on vacation. The staff, from the front desk, nurses/assistants, appt dest and PT crew are helpful and caring. Dr. Eby worked me in a day Dr. Cook was not in the office and was equally as caring and professional.

I am very well pleased with this group. I have visited four of their doctors for different things. Dr. Patel operated on my neck several years ago. Dr. Eby takes care of my back/leg pain. Dr. LaDouceur just operated on my hand. Great job, can't tell it was operated on. Dr. Passmore fixed my foot fracture. Finally physical therapy group was amazing. You can't go wrong with AOS.

I absolutely love this place. They are always courteous and professional. You actually get a live person when you call in; and they get me in quick, no matter what my issue is. Dr. LaDouceur knew exactly what was wrong with my shoulder at my very first appointment. After struggling for 3 months I finally found a place that fixed my shoulder. The surgery was quick and they've been wonderful in following up with my progress. My son is also a patient here, and I wouldn't go anywhere else. The entire staff are warm and friendly at every visit.
